PROJECT WITH OPERATIONAL HEART IN CHIOGGIA

CIMOLAI TECHNOLOGY BUILDS TWO GOLIATH CRANES OF 800 TONS EACH: A PROJECT OF ENGINEERING, LOGISTICAL AND INDUSTRIAL EXCELLENCE WITH OPERATIONAL HEART IN PORTO VAL DA RIO, CHIOGGIA

Chioggia, June 23, 2025 — Cimolai Technology, a global leader in the design and construction of custom lifting and handling systems, is engaged in an extraordinary project at the port of Chioggia: the design, construction, and delivery of two rail-mounted Goliath cranes, each with a lifting capacity of 800 tons. Today, Cimolai Technology presented the project activities to local authorities to ensure transparency on ongoing operations and the work schedule.

The two cranes, designed for heavy naval lifting, represent a groundbreaking feat in engineering and logistics. Each crane reaches a height of 110 meters and a rail span of 118 meters. Designed to operate both independently and in tandem, they can lift up to 1600 tons together, ensuring maximum operational flexibility in shipyard applications.

As emphasized by Roberto Cimolai, CEO of Cimolai Technology Group, one of the main challenges lies in the delivery method:

"For the first time, both cranes will be shipped fully assembled and tested via barge, ready for immediate operation. This ensures full continuity of the client’s shipyard operations."

A Unique Industrial and Logistical Operation at the Port of Chioggia

The cranes will be entirely assembled at Cimolai Technology’s facility in Chioggia, located in the Porto Val da Rio port area. From there, the structures will be shipped by a special barge across the Adriatic Sea to the client’s site in Monfalcone. This highly complex and engineered operation highlights Cimolai Technology’s capability to manage complete turn-key supplies on an international scale.

The full project will take 24 months, with delivery scheduled for summer 2026.

Industrial Synergy Driving Excellence

This initiative is made possible by the synergy among the companies of the Cimolai Technology Group: ACCS (Armando Cimolai Centro Servizi) oversees the production of structural components; Cimolai Technology handles design, construction, and testing; and the Porto Val da Rio facility in Chioggia serves as a strategic hub for pre-assembly, testing, and logistics.

The site stands as a model of collaboration between industry and territory. Occupying over 45,000 sqm, the facility operates in the section of Val da Rio designated by the Port Regulatory Plan for port-related economic activities. It closely coordinates with local institutions and the Northern Adriatic Sea Port Authority, showcasing how public-private cooperation is vital for the success of strategic projects at both national and international levels.

“The Port of Chioggia,” stated Fulvio Lino Di Blasio, President of the Northern Adriatic Sea Port Authority, “is a key part of the Veneto port system and reaffirms the leading role of lagoon ports in the high-value industrial cargo segment. We must continue to attract port-industrial investments to fully leverage the strategic potential of the Chioggia terminal. The establishment of a Special Logistic Zone and streamlined authorization procedures has been crucial in launching this project.”
