First Load tests underway in Chioggia for Fincantieri’s 800-Ton Cranes

Commissioning activities begin with dynamic and static load tests using water drawn directly from the lagoon

The first load tests are now underway at Porto Val da Rio in Chioggia for the new 800-ton cranes built for Fincantieri, marking a major milestone in the commissioning phase of the project.

The testing program has started with the initial load verification activities, including a dynamic load test at 880 tons and a static load test at 1,000 tons. To perform these operations, 880 cubic meters of water are used for the dynamic test and 1,000 cubic meters of water for the static test.

One of the distinctive aspects of this commissioning phase is the use of water drawn directly from the lagoon, which is employed as the testing load. This solution not only supports the technical requirements of the tests, but also connects the operation to the local maritime environment in which the cranes will operate.

These load tests are essential to verify the performance, structural behavior and operational reliability of the cranes under controlled conditions before full service readiness. The commissioning activities at Porto Val da Rio represent another important step forward in delivering high-performance lifting solutions for the shipbuilding sector.

With these first tests, the project enters a key validation stage, confirming the engineering value, technical precision and execution capability behind the development of these special heavy-lifting systems for Fincantieri.
